Current Read: The Seduction of Water
Posted by kjcardoza at 5:33 pm in 2008, fiction

I just finished The Ghost Orchid by Carol Goodman and this one, The Seduction of Water is coming due as well so I bumped it to the top of my pile.  The first book that I read of hers was The Lake of Dead Languages and it blew me away. I read it a couple of years ago and thought about it for weeks. Having just finished Ghost Orchid yesterday, I can say that I enjoyed it but since it wasn’t my first experience reading her, I was more used to her style and sort of knew where it was going. I’m curious to see if I enjoy this one as much or if it will be too predictable to me since the newness is gone.

Current Read: Certain Girls

I just finished The Guy Not Taken and this one  came in from the library hold. I’m planning on reading it while reading Carol Goodman’s,  The Ghost Orchid because it’s a totally different type of book. Weiner is very light and funny and Goodman is much more deep and dark. Besides.. I always read Weiner super-fast and I’ve got tons of books to read!

I don’t know anything about this one and haven’t heard a thing but I do know that I LOVED Carol Goodman’s  Lake of the Dead Languages so I’m betting that this will be a good one as well. I’m bumping it to the top of the list because it’s a library book.

Current Read: the guy not taken

As a fan of Jennifer Weiner, I immediately put this one  the guy not taken on hold as soon as I saw it. I can always read her books quickly and I believe that this one will be no different. Rather than a typical novel, it’s a series of short stories. I plan to hit this one up while the boys are off in the boat fishing for the day.

Current Read: This Side of Married
Posted by kjcardoza at 7:28 pm in 2008, audio, fiction

Just started this audio book to read while I’m doing things around the house. With the heatwave going on, I’ve been staying upstairs so I just play it while I’m soaking up the AC and getting things done in the kitchen.  It’s This Side of Married by Rachel Pastan.

Current Read: The Pilot’s Wife
Posted by kjcardoza at 9:00 pm in 2008, Oprah, audio, challenges, fiction

The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve is one of Oprah’s Book Club selections that has been in my TBR pile for awhile. I just finished Bud, Not Buddy and The 6th Target this week but with the end of the school year just around the corner, I’ve got TONS of paperwork, meetings and commitments taking up my time. I hope to get more reading done but it may be slow going for the next few weeks.

Making my way through the Newbery Medal winners, I came across this one, Bud, Not Buddy, by Christopher Paul Curtis in the online audio book section of my library. I’m hoping to get through the 5+ hours of listening before it expires while I’m away for the weekend.

Current Read: The Higher Power of Lucky
Posted by kjcardoza at 7:26 pm in 2008, audio, children's lit, fiction

I’m currently reading this 2007 Newbery Medal winner via mp3 while working around the house. This one is The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron. I love to read good children’s/young adult literature and they can usually be quick reads. This week is all about making preparations for the Rendezvous so I’ll listen in while sewing.

Current Read: The 6th Target

I always read all of James Patterson’s books and I’ve had this one for awhile. I’ll be able to blow through it in one or two sittings though since his work is usually a super quick read. The 6th Target is part of the Women’s Murder Club series.

I downloaded The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo via audio book as part of my quest to make it through all of the remaining Newbery Medal winners on my TBR list. I’ve got some sewing to do this weekend and I’ll listen while I work.
