I’ve been banging out the audio books and love to read books by British authors in the audio version because the accent is true. Today’s book is Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella

About the book (from the website) :
When twenty-eight-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she’s in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident—in a Mercedes no less—Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she’s about to find out just how much things have changed, Somehow Lexi went from a twenty-five-year-old working girl to a corporate big shot with a sleek new loft, a personal assistant, a carb-free diet, and a set of glamorous new friends….

Current Read: Gossamer
Posted by kjcardoza at 7:19 pm in 2009, Popular Categories, YA, audio, children's lit, fantasy

I enjoy reading children’s literature and Lois Lowry is one of the best. I spotted Gossamer in the e-book section of my library website so I downloaded down this short one as a filler. I headed out to the library tonight and grabbed some new audio books but it’s nice to have the electronic downloads as well.

About the book:

Littlest One is a delicate, invisible spirit who is in training to be a dream-giver, learning to blend fragments of happy memories with fragile details of daily life for people as they sleep. She helps a tormented foster child at night, bestowing healing memories in his dreams.

Current Read: Shopaholic and Baby
Posted by kjcardoza at 3:07 pm in 2009, Popular Categories, audio, series

Having finished two audio books yesterday, I didn’t have anything in the house so I downloaded an easy one, Sophie Kinsella‘s Shopaholic & Baby. I’ve read all of the others in this series and while Becky usually drives me nuts, it’s easy, quick reading.

About the book: Becky’s life is blooming! She’s working at London’s newest big store, The Look, house-hunting with husband Luke (her secret wish is a Shoe Room)…and she’s pregnant! She couldn’t be more overjoyed—especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness. Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery…to the latest, coolest pram…to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician. But when the celebrity obstetrician turns out to be Luke’s glamorous, intellectual ex-girlfriend, Becky’s perfect world starts to crumble. She’s shopping for two…but are there three in her marriage?

Current Read: He’s just not that into you
Posted by kjcardoza at 6:37 am in 2009, Non-fiction, Self-Help, audio

Searching for a quick audio book at the library the title caught my eye because I’ve seen it advertised as a movie. I had no idea it was an advice book and not a novel but  I started listening to he’s just not that into you by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo yesterday while working in the yard and it’s good anyway. (Not that I’m in the market for a man… don’t think my husband would appreciate that! hehe) It should be interesting to see how they’ve turned this into a movie.

From the jacket: He’s just not that into you– based on a popular episode of Sex in the City– educates otherwise smart women on how to tell when a guy just doesn’t like them enough, so they can stop wasting time making excuses for a dead-end relationship….

Current Read: The Almost Moon
Posted by kjcardoza at 7:52 pm in 2009, Popular Categories, audio

This weekend’s audio book to listen to while I work in the yard is The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold. I spotted it at the library and have read her other books, The Lovely Bones and Lucky.

From the Jacket:  Clair and Helen Knightly are a parent and child locked in a relationship so unrelenting that they have become the center of each other’s worlds. But as this electrifying novel opens, Helen crosses a boundary she never thought she would approach. And while her act is almost unconscious, it somehow seems like the fulfillment of a lifetime’s unspoken wishes….

While I’ve been dying for this final book to come in at the library and I’ve been so anxious to read it, I know that I’ll be disappointed when the series is finished and there’s nothing else!  I’ve got both the audio version and the hard copy so I’m able to either follow along or pick up either when it suits me. So, here it is.. the final book of the Twilight Series, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer.

From the jacket: To be irrovacably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound conncetion to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation,  loss, and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her immenent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs…

Current Read: The Hour I First Believed
Posted by kjcardoza at 8:56 pm in 2009, Popular Categories, audio

My current audio book is by one of my favorite authors, Wally Lamb. One of my all time favorite books was This Much I Know is True. My sister-in-law suggested his latest, The Hour I First Believed and I immediately put in on hold a few months ago. I just came in so I’m firing it up while still waiting for the final Twilight  book.

From the jacket: When 47-year-old Caelum Quirk and his younger wife, Maureen, moved to Littleton, Colorado, they were both excited to receive teaching positions at Columbine High School. However, their excitement turned to absolute horror when two students orchestrated a murderous rampage throughout the building.

While waiting for the final audio installment of the Twilight Series, Breaking Dawn to become available for checkout at my library, I downloaded The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson to fill my ears until it’s ready. I hadn’t heard of it, but @purplecar mentioned it in a 12seconds.tv response to one of my posts so decided to read it since it was available.

About the book (Amazon): Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch–and there’s always a catch–is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades….. Dave Callanan

Current Read: Against Medical Advice
Posted by kjcardoza at 7:59 am in 2009, Non-fiction, memoir

Today’s book is Against Medical Advice by James Patterson and Hal Friedman. Since it’s school vacation week, I hope to read a lot and plan to mix up the genres.

From the Jacket: One morning when he was almost five years old, Cory Freidman woke up with the uncontrollable urge to shake his head. From that day forward, his life became an agony of irrepressible tics and involuntary utterances. Cory embarked on a 13 year odyssey of medication upon medication, treatment upon treatment….

Finished New Moon in one day and starting part 3 tonight!  So glad it’s the weekend so I can plug in and listen for hours. :-)   Tonight’s audio book is Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
