Countdown… 1!!!

So…. here I am! Today was another day of getting organized and cleaning. I’m in great shape for the summer and to start off next year. Of course, Room 249 was full but most of the rest of the school was empty. We always have a full house right up to the end; especially since they all go to school in the summer for ESY (extended school year).

Syd and I found out some great news today after school: She’s getting the room next to mine which is what we hoped for. We still plan on doing a lot together and more or less will be sharing 2 rooms now instead of 1 but we won’t be so squished and the best thing is I can take down the barrier that we’ve got separating our sides of the room. My room will be used for all of our daily living skill curriculum and when she’s cooking or using the laundry area, I’ll go into her room with my group. We’ll still be sharing materials, will team teach some units and will swap off kids and make different groups depending on what their needs are. I’m very excited about the upcoming year!!

Tonight was an errand night and by the time I got home, put the groceries away, took care of the girls and cleaned the kitchen it was already past doggie bed time! No worries though, since I’ll have LOTS of time very soon, to catch up on things!! I’ve got some library materials that are coming due and I need to return them soon.

Today was a very good day, and the only downer was Bella’s eye.. Every time I look at her I get choked up and want to cry. I called Dr. Abrams and he’ll see her on June 27th. Barring a miracle, spontaneous, self-healing, she’ll need surgery again and I’d like to get it ASAP. I’m nervous about her playing with Chloe and damaging it more. I’m trying to stay positive and sending the good vibe.. and I know that no matter what, she’ll be ok. I would love to avoid her having to go through yet another surgery though.

As for now, I’m heading to bed and once my phone alarm rings tomorrow at 6:00AM, I’ll not only shut it off but cancel the daily wake-up call for the next 10 weeks! :-)

Gorgeous Day!

Spring is sprung but it felt like summer today! I took the girls on a nice long walk in woods, finished Merle’s Door which I’ve been trying to do all week, and read two shorties, Aquamarine, and Good Dog. Stay. this afternoon.

I’ve got a load on the line and all of my windows open. Just a taste of what’s to come… ahhhhhh, how I love summer! Al and Jake went out into the bay with the boat today and reported that it was just perfect out there as well.

Word is, tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous too! Overall, this has been one of the nicest April vacations we’ve had in a long time. I’ve gotten to take the girls out quite a bit and it’s nice to shed the sweaters!

Vacation Update

I LOVE being home…just in case you haven’t figured that out yet. ;-) Yesterday, I went to the gym for a good workout then met Chel for a nice lunch in Providence. This morning, after their bloodwork I took the girls for a beautiful 2.5 mile spring walk at Lincoln Woods while Al jogged and Jake fished.

Today is a good day! My yardwork is done. I’m going to spend 2 hours (1 to make up for yesterday) working on the assessment, run some errands later today, then watch The Biggest Loser finale tonight! Go Ali!! :-) She’s such an inspiration. Honestly, while I hope that she wins, they’re ALL WINNERS on that show. I’m so impressed by how much they’ve changed their lives and worked so hard to achieve their goals.

My calendar booked up quickly this week and while I initially only had plans on Thursday, I now have a commitment every day this week. So, while projects like repainting my bathroom may not get done, I’m going to make sure that I get a workout in every day and keep to my assessment schedule for the week.

I’m so thankful that I’m home… it’s definitely my favorite place to be.

Tidbits

Just an FYI if you happened over to Patriotworld.com, I’m having a Frontpage error problem so I can’t get in to fix the border issue. I’m waiting for my host to locate the missing file which will allow my FP Extensions to work and let me fix it. (Sorry, if you’ve been trying to access it this weekend.)

I’m sooo thankful that I decided to take a breather from getting involved with the Superbowl re-hash conversations. I don’t have the time or energy to invest in all of the negative talk going on right now on message boards and email lists. I’ll be back when the talks turn to the 2008 season prep. I’m not into beating the dead horse.

Last night, we took a bus trip to Foxwoods and had a good time with friends MJ & Louie. Can’t beat the price on a trip like that. $30 gets you the transportation plus tickets for the $19 buffet, and $20 in Keno cards. We’re not big gamblers so it was a cheap night out for us, especially since I hit $160 on Keno when I checked my tickets on the way out the door. It more than made up for what we put in the machines and our drink at the Hard Rock Cafe.

This is how I spent my birthday morning… looks like torture doesn’t it?! ;-)

A Perfect Christmas…

About 15 years ago, my husband and I made a decision regarding how we wanted to spend our Christmas holiday. I had two toddlers and he was working 3rd shift at the time and Christmas Day was a rushed, stressful time for us. So, we declared that Christmas Day would be a family day and we would remain at home. We respectfully declined all invitations from family and friends and reassured them that it wasn’t that we didn’t love them or appreciate their offer but we would be staying home for a low key day. (We see Al’s family on Christmas Eve and my family on a Saturday near Christmas to exchange gifts so staying home doesn’t mean that we don’t get together at all, just not on Christmas day too.)

No longer did we have to drag our kids away from their newly opened loot, dress them up in Holiday-wear and put up with the sounds of cranky, over-tired kids. Our Christmas mornings are now leisurely affairs often involving lots of coffee and lounging in flannels all day. It’s Heavenly!! Now that the kids are older, a little has changed but not much. Instead of getting up early to play with toys, they stay up late, then sleep the morning away, getting up in time for the ham dinner that I prepare. I still get up pretty early but lounge with a book or online enjoying the early morning peace and quiet.

This year, we’ve added 2 little girls to the crew.. Bella, who joined our family in June and just today, Chloe, who is snuggled up and snoozing right beside me. Once again, I’ve got lots to be thankful for and I’m so glad to have spent the day doing things that make me happy.
