Day 2: Still no rest…

…but I’m ok with that!  I’m still in catch-up mode but the relaxing is coming soon, I can see it!  I took the girls for another early morning walk at Lincoln Woods which was a great way to start today. When I got home, they napped and I set to work in the yard. My flower beds and garden are fully weeded and are looking fiiiine!

Later, I put together the two compost bins and moved my compost heap back. I’ve got a nice blister as the result of my efforts but tis ok with me. It’ll be nice to have the compost contained and easily accessible from the bottom when it’s ready rather than having to dig up entire piles to get to the good stuff.

Then I ran some errands: library, school to feed my fish, Jacob drop-off(s) and pick-up(s), etc.  We got some rain tonight which nixxed my evening walk at the Monastery with the girls but was welcome just the same. I love the green look of spring and early summer.  It totally puts me at peace and makes me smile.

This evening, I finally did a quick PatriotWorld Podcast. I’ll do another as soon as the Training Camp schedule is released and there’s more going on. Now that Pats news is focused on the future, I’ll be tuning in once again.  I haven’t turned on the NFL Network or listened to any sports talk radio all offseason. I like to focus on the positive so I steered clear of the Monday morning quarterbacking and debacle news.

Tomorrow, I plan on walking the girls, staking some plants, getting my laundry on the line early and hopefully spend a bit of time relaxing and reading by the pool.  It hasn’t happened yet, but getting things accomplished makes me very happy. :-)

Countdown 10, 9…

It’s been an incredibly busy week since coming home from the Rendezvous. Unexpected things have been happening in the personal life and I’m wrapping up things at school so online time has been limited. As of right now, there are 9 more mornings that I need to get up for work this school year! There’s been little time to blog but I’m hoping to carve out at least a few minutes each day from here on out.

I’ve finished my last two IEPs for this year and met with parents on my free periods today and yesterday. These will be the last two done in this manner as RI has changed their procedures and forms. (I attended a training the other day and it’s going to take some time to “unlearn” what I’ve been doing all these years and change my mindset.) One of my favorite students has moved back into my district so he started again on Monday. We’ve been kept busy meeting his unique needs so my assistant and I are really on our toes.

Tomorrow, the adults in the room are holding a Cultural Feast for the students. I’m making traditional French Canadian Meat Pies (Tourtiere). Each family has their own recipe but the basic ingredients are beef, pork, potatoes, and spices. Right now, my house is starting to smell like the holidays! In my family, this is also the meat stuffing for the Thanksgiving turkey. It’s quite a bit of work but so very yummy!!

Due to the inconsistencies on Twitter of late, many of us have taken the opportunity to check out Plurk. It’s yet another microblogging site and is good for a back-up or as a page to visit in it’s own right but is not the same type of service as Twitter and will serve different purposes. I’m mrsb there as well. Add me if you wish. To me, Plurk is much more like Seesmic; a place to visit and spend time involved in the conversations. I’m playing around with a new toy a bit but Twitter is my mainstay. (Mostly because I don’t “go to” Twitter. I never spend time on their website, I just have Twhirl open and it scrolls on by. Sometimes I get in on the conversation and sometimes I don’t. It’s invaluable if you need an answer for something fast and it hasn’t let me down yet. My son needed some information about the price of refinishing a wood floor for a math project and businesses were closed. A quick tweet and I had a number of answers within minutes!)

That’s all for tonight.. going to fill the pies, tuck the girls in and hit the bed with a book. More tomorrow for Day 8.

Edit : Don’t forget the ketchup!

Website Editing Tool help?

I’m looking for ideas and suggestions please… I’ve googled all day and have come across a number of forum posts but no real solution that works for me. I started my PatriotWorld website in 2002 using Frontpage and have been using the WYSIWYG software ever since to update the site with increasing number of problems. I’m continually having Frontpage Extension errors with my hosting company and cannot update the site without contacting them to reinstall the extensions which takes quite a bit of time and is a total hassle. Worse still, when they redo the .htaccess for the extensions, it replaces my .htaccess file for my podcast redirect. (I’ve since discovered that my feed hasn’t been working for the past two shows.. thankfully, it’s not football season, or worse yet, training camp.)

So… here’s where I stand: I’ve since switched to Mac and am loving my MBP so if I wanted to cut ties completely from the PC, I would have to move away from Frontpage anyway. However, I really don’t mind keeping all the website crap there since I would prefer not to clutter up this laptop with 6 years worth of website content. So, I have no problem staying PC for the site only. (I’m still using the PC for Castblaster as well, but that’s another story completely.)

  • I can still edit pages using FP but can’t update the site via FP because it won’t connect due to the extension errors.
  • I can upload pages via the Bluehost FTP but can’t update the shared borders (header of my site pages!) because the files are hidden and do not show up on the PC side of the FTP panel.

I’ve looked into Kompozer based on recommendations from the folks at Bluehost but it saves all pages as .html and my site’s 100+ pages have extensions of .htm. There’s no way around that either. I tried making new pages with the extension of .html with the intent to change hyperlinks and delete the originals if necessary but they won’t upload at all and are giving an “unknown error”.

So… I’m looking for suggestions if anyone has any. (Spending $400 bucks for Dreamweaver is not something that I’m willing to do and I don’t know if it would be a smooth transition from Frontpage anyway.) Another option would be to try to start the site all over using another software or something like Wordpress but just having lots of fixed pages instead of blog entries. Either way, that would be TONS of work to recreate all of that content.

I’m sure I’m not the first to defect from Frontpage so I’m sending out an SOS for suggestions about where to go from here. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

The Theme is the Culprit!

Ok… so I’m not the only one having the plug-in problems and someone on Seesmic suggested that it may be my theme and sure enough when I switched to the default one it works. I’ll have to try to get someone to help me to figure out the problem with it. Either that or my options are to a.) forget about using the plugin or b.) find a new theme that’s compatible.
